September 2018 Meeting Summary

After 3 meeting months with speakers, it was a real joy to get together and share thoughts, testimonials and delicious "pot luck" goodies. Many folks brought their lunch and snacks/desserts to share.  The 2 Brothers Crafting brought their famous pesticide/preservative free hand/body lotion to sell and it was a big hit.  They are both celiac and are home schooled and their entrepreneur spirit is very motivating.
Recent member Gerrit shares a very delicious vegetable broth that he has been consuming to better his health.  A cancer survivor, his testimonial was very moving as he discovered success in a gluten free/dairy free/ sugar free lifestyle.  Thanks so much for joining our group and sharing your journey.  Having no success with local doctors, Gerrit found on line a company that will do self-referred blood testing through local labs here in Prescott.  Check this out yourself, if it applies to you.  LIFE EXTENSION, NATIONAL DIAGNOSTIC, 5990 N Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33308  lifeextension.com. You must put blood testing or something similar in their search engine, as they also sell supplements, magazines etc.  Or call 866-962-4701.  This is his personal recommendation and NOT AN ENDORSEMENT BY OUR SUPPORT GROUP.
Thanks to everyone that brought desserts to share.  A hit was the home made cookies by Nicole and 2 Brothers Crafting.  Find the recipe at http://allnewrecipescooking.blogspot.com  Type in the search box  rice flour jam cookies.
And finally, we had a lively discussion on the benefits of A2 Milk.  If you have been unable to consume milk without gastric disasters please go to your computer search engine and just type in a2milk.  There is a plethora of information.  Check out the 2minute video on YouTube by Dr. Eric Berg, DC. It is very concise and easy to understand.  Also, check out https://a2milk.com.au/about-us/milk-nutrition.  In general, milks from Guernseys, Jersey, humans, sheep, goat, camel etc contain the A2 Beta Casein.
I received a request from a member that would like to know if any of you out there in email-land know a doctor in town, familiar with Lymphocytic Colitis.  If so, please email me and I will pass the info on.  I am not able to do this type of personal request for specific medical conditions regularly. However, I am making an exception at this time.
See you all in October.
Renee

August 2018 Meeting Summary

Thank you to all who attended the meeting, August 14th of the Prescott Area Celiac and Gluten Free Supportorganization.  We covered a lot of information, only some of which I can concisely summarize.
Breanne Murcek, Territory Sales Manager, Vibrant America Clinical Lab was our guest speaker.  I can certainly tell you, she had a captured audience , that picked her brain endlessly.  I encourage any of you interested in more details than I can provide to check out www.vibrant-wellness.com. If you have specific questions for Bree her direct email address is BMurcek@Vibrant-America.com.  Currently, Innate Wellness & Medical Center (Dr. Gemie McLeod) at 820 Ainsworth Dr. Prescott can order the requested labs.  Breanne is investigating whether there is a local lab that we can self-refer.

One of the exciting tests Vibrant can provide is called WHEAT ZOOMER.  This is a comprehensive, sensitive and specific test to determine the spectrum of wheat and gluten related disorders. The WHEAT ZOOMER allows detection of protein antibodies associated with wheat and gluten sensitivities for information to reduce, monitor and manage the inflammatory effects of those sensitivities.  The cost is approx. $200.00.  Vibrant also has a specific sensitivity test for 96 foods that test for the IgA and IgG sensitivities. The cost is approx. 150.00  ( All prices are subject to change and are not specific for our support group)  The tests do not include the blood draw.  The WHEAT ZOOMER  also tests for "Leaky Gut Syndrome" (Intestinal Permeability).
If any of our members have had these tests and would like to share their opinions please email me.
I received a call from McKenzie, Manager of Frannie's Frozen Yogurt in downtown Prescott.  After one of our members inquired about the ingredient Maltodextrin in the their yogurt, McKenzie sought out the source of the maltodextrin and it is CORN.  She is educating her staff and hopes to have prepacked gluten free bakery items available soon.
Last week member Nicole and I had a table top display at the 63rd anniversary open house of Natural Grocers.  Thank you to all members that stopped by to support our group.  Our group is now considered a "community partner"  with Natural Grocers after Nutritional Coach , Vicky, spoke at our meeting in June. Vicky is arranging for a major event next year during National Celiac Month of May.
In good health!

July 2018 Meeting Summary

Note: The Prescott Area Celiac and Gluten Free Support Group meets the second Tuesday of each month. Call Renee Richey @ (928) 443-0399 for info about meeting locations and times.

The Prescott Celiac and Gluten Free Support group had a terrific meeting this past week! The group hosted Melissa Ellis, Clinical Dietitian Supervisor and Cheryl, Nutrition Associate with Yavapai  Regional Medical Center (YRMC), as our guest speakers. Melissa spoke in depth on several aspects of Celiac and Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity, that I got so caught up in, I didn't take very good notes...so my summary will be incomplete.  We hope to have both of them back as a community outreach from YRMC in the future.
One thing that struck me as significant was the fact that of the population that have Type 1 diabetes, at least 10% will have Celiac. And, we know that in the general population  1 out of 133 people have Celiac or Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity.  Melissa is also available for one on one consultation with a referral from either your doctor or your naturapath. If your insurance won't pay, it is $130.00 for an hour or so personal consultation.
Cheryl brought everyone samples of a delicious chia pudding (it can be made without ginger, FYI).  They brought recipes for the make-ahead pudding and an almond butter protein bite.  Melissa also spoke about eating OATS.....It is important for all of us to do our best to consume oats that follow the "purity protocol". Linda has found that GF HARVEST and MONTANA GLUTEN FREE are safe for us (both must be ordered online)  I eat GLUTENFREEDA and I buy hers at Sprouts.  As always...choose what works for you. These are only our suggestions.
We had two new members, Kathy and my dear friend Gerrit Jones. Each were able to give their personal testimonial on the journey to good health the gluten free way.
Thank you to all who came to the meeting. We missed those of you who could not attend.  Our meetings are always the second Tuesday of the month.  Next month we have Brea from VIBRANT LABS coming from Phoenix to speak. We had a record turnout the last time she attended our meeting.  So please put August 14th on your calendar.
In good health!
Renee and Linda
