The Prescott Area Celiac and Gluten Free Support Group held a fantastic meeting Tuesday June 12th.Thank you to all of you that were able to make it.
Vicky Elliott, PhD, RDN, Nutritional Health Coach for Natural Grocers, Prescott was our guest speaker. Her email address is nhc.ps@naturalgrocers.com. She covered so much information and brought many samples and support handouts. To briefly summarize her presentation.... Vicky spoke about the founder Margaret Isley (who created the original Vitamin Cottage, that would become Natural Grocers (NG). Vicky is in charge of the nutrition education department at NG. She does personal health coaching by appointment if ever you want to go over your personal supplemental questions, nutritional suggestions etc. You must call for an appointment. Her personal coaching is on Fridays, and on Tuesday and Wednesdays you will find her working in the store. She emphasized the uniqueness of Natural Grocers, in that all of their fresh produce items are all organic! That is why sometimes you will not find certain fruits or vegetables. It is because they were not available "organic" . The signage in the store EDAP means Everyday Affordable Pricing. Also, in the back right side of the store is a tan file cabinet,. This cabinet is the Customer Literature File Cabinet. You many go in it any time and take fliers on whatever your interest is in. You can reach Vicky at 771-0400. And more thanks to Linda for contacting Gimbals Candy Company. Gimbals candy is gluten free. Gimbals generously donated bags and bags of samples of their Scottie Dogs (black licorice), Sour Jelly Beans, and Cherry Lovers soft chew candies. I can easily say that those at the meeting that never liked black licorice, loved the black licorice Scottie Dogs. On a final note. we have another new gluten free baker in town. You can meet Michael and Brittany Flores at the Yavapai College Farmer's Market on Saturdays.
